He led various AI efforts at DeepMind, but his desire to have a bigger impact on the world led him to co-found Moonvalley, where he could drive innovation and breakthroughs in the field of AI and AI-powered products. A childhood experience attending a film festival gave him an early appreciation for the people behind the camera, and that still drives his goal of creating tools for filmmakers that extend their capabilities and enhance their creativity, all while respecting the rights of all creators. Mateusz has always been interested in solving ambitious open-ended problems, and his dream is to solve visual intelligence—building models that can understand how things move and interact in the real world.

He has always explored the intersection of the creative and the technical—he loved to paint and draw, but he also got to represent his nation, Poland, in international mathematics competitions. Initially drawn to AI by the advent of early generative image models, Mik authored several notable papers during his graduate research and tenure at DeepMind. His drive to solve real-world problems and love for visual storytelling eventually inspired him to trade academic pursuits for the chance to fundamentally change how Hollywood-quality films can be made. At Moonvalley, Mik spearheaded the development of Marey, a generative video model trained entirely with licensed content.
